How to use the pun list
Another pun picks a random line from the topic you choose and won't repeat one until the topic runs out. The search box filters the list below as you type, matching any part of a word, so "bake" finds the bakery and the bake sale. Every pun has its own copy button for a birthday card, a caption or a group chat.
What makes a pun work?
A pun uses one word in two ways at once. Sometimes the word really has two meanings, like the bowling alley that went so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Sometimes it just sounds like another word, like "zest practices" for best practices. The best puns make sense both ways, so the listener gets the plain meaning first and the silly one a second later, which is when the groan arrives.
To write your own, pick a topic, list words that belong to it (bread: loaf, crust, rise, roll), then look for everyday phrases that contain one of them. "Rise to the occasion" is waiting for a muffin.
Questions
What is the difference between a pun and a dad joke?
A pun is the wordplay itself, often a single sentence. A dad joke usually wraps a pun in a question and answer, so there is a setup and a punchline. The random dad joke generator on the home page has those.
Can I use these puns in a card or a caption?
Yes, that's what the copy buttons are for. Each one copies the pun as plain text, ready to paste.
Why does the search find nothing?
The search only looks inside the topic you picked. Set the topic back to All topics, or try a shorter part of the word, such as "music" instead of "musician".
